Spiral ring splint (1 joint) 5022
Purpose:
To limit the ‘range of motion’ (ROM) of the finger at the desired angle (both frontal and sagittal plane).
Adjusting:
To put on the spiral ring splint (SRS) you screw it around the finger. This ensures that the ring engages properly and keeps soft tissue in place.
The positioning of the SRS around the finger, in regards desired limitation of movement, is dependent on the fulcrum analysis.
For example, if the splint needs to hinder flexion in the PIP, it is important that the spiral lies dorsally at the level of the PIP.
The length of the splint can be shortened or lengthened by pushing the proximal and distal ends of the splint towards each other, or by pulling them apart.
